When we were growing up, Twin Foodie and I stayed with our grandparents for a week every summer. Every afternoon our grandpa popped popcorn and poured Coca-Cola, and at 4:30pm we sat down to watch Jeopardy. We’d whoop and holler if we ever knew the answer to any of the questions which meant we were fairly quiet as we busily munched away on our snack. Grandpa’s popcorn was good, but if you are ready to take your popcorn to a whole new level, try the Best Popcorn Ever. Seriously.
Remember a time when your mother told you to try something new and after reluctantly agreeing, it became your most favorite thing ever? This is one of those times. Only I’m not your mother (unless you’re my kids reading this. Then yes, I am your mother and you have to listen to me). Immediately stop what you are doing and go make the Best Popcorn Ever right now. I do have to warn you that this is a lick your fingers, can’t stop eating, ultimate movie snack.
So what exactly makes this popcorn any different than any other assembled kernels of popped corn? The Best Popcorn Ever is popped over the stove in coconut oil then drizzled with butter. Be sure to drizzle the butter over the popcorn evenly, stirring as you drizzle. As soon as you have coated the popcorn in butter, sprinkle your nutritional yeast and salt evenly over the popcorn, stirring as you go. If you have never used nutritional yeast before, you are in for a treat. Nutritional yeast has a cheesy taste exactly 1,000 times better than your typical orange cheese powder. It is full of vitamins (especially B vitamins), minerals, and protein. Did I mention that it also tastes amazing?
So what are you waiting for? December is in full swing, and it’s time to pull out the Christmas movie classics. Make a double (or triple) batch of popcorn and cozy up on the couch with your favorite people as you reconnect with Buddy the Elf and Charlie Brown.
Twin Foodie Review: Homemade popcorn beats microwave popcorn hands down. It is worth the extra few minutes of time. This combination would be guilt free if it wasn’t for the fact that I devour far more than my fair share! Who dreamed I could have my popcorn and eat my vitamins too?!
